Why a AK-47 in your collection ?

Just finished reading a great book called 'The Gun'. Recommend for anyone, both pro and anti, interested in the social causes of unrest and violence today. I am pro gun and this book, starting with an outline of the development of assault type weapons in general, the affordable spread of cheap firepower through state mandated manufacturing quotas and the emergence of the child soldier,  supports the position that it is not the instrument but the ultimate user who determines the damage, or danger, to society.

Another interesting thought was outlined. The simple, cheap AK-47 style rifle has killed more people and caused more suffering than the nuclear weapons developed as deterrence during the cold war. Cheap manufacturing, loose controls at the state level in the eastern block countries and distribution to cronies as a political reward resulted in misuse, and spread far beyond the anticipated impact by it's inventors.

There are other books available for the tinkerer and enthusiast who wants to know how a weapon is made and works. This book will provide another look at weapons today from a social standpoint. .

All in all, a good read. Buy it online at a discount.
